That’s the question I’ve been asking myself for a while now. With the profusion of social networking communities that serve millions of active members, what’s the point of adding one more?
Well, I looked at it this way – our city has a plethora of places that serve afternoon teas (yes, I’m British and I don’t care!). I’ve tried most of them, and yes, I do have my favourite. However, if another opened up, I’d just have to peek inside to see what they have to offer; who knows, they may just have something a little, bit different that might take my fancy.
Plus, regardless of what the ‘old-school’ (not ‘old’…we welcome all ages, here!) technophobes may say, the internet has become a place to meet new people rather than making us a gaggle of agoraphobics who are too afraid to step away from the digital world to enjoy ‘real’ relationships. Maybe we do, as a whole, spend a little, too much time on social networking, but for some the internet has been a lifeline, and for others has even built up their confidence in themselves enough to forge those offline friendships. A quick Google search seems to confirm that.
However, as with all things, there are those who abuse the digital world as they can hide behind the anonymity it affords them. We do need to be careful of the things we post; we shouldn’t, for instance, tell the world we’ll be away for two weeks in the summer…that really wouldn’t be wise! There is all kinds of valuable advice to help us to stay safe while having a good time. Always remember that you only ‘know’ what people tell you; there is no way to confirm anything anyone posts about themselves. People have been hurt that way, so never take anyone at their word when it comes to online connections. It appears that most people are decent and honest, but for the small amount that will take advantage – well, it’s just not worth it!
As long as you take all of the proper precautions and are careful about what you post and how you behave, you should have a great time online! Some of my heartiest belly-laughs and memorable conversations have been from chatting with strangers on various websites!
So yes, with more and more people accessing the internet every day, I do think there is a need for more ways to make friends. And despite our name, we’re just crazy in a fun way, not a creepy way!
So here we are. We’ve just opened and placed the sparkling, new signboard outside and are waiting for the curious customers to see just what we have to offer. Oh, and we have a suggestion box in our forums for those that can help us to improve our service!.
